Official steps
How to get the tractor licence
- 1.
Apply for a driving licence permit
Your driving licence permit must be valid when you take the theory test.
- 2.
Complete EAS if required
If the category T licence is your first driving licence, complete the EAS training of four theory lessons with an approved training provider.
- 3.
Take the theory test
You can take the category T theory test once you have turned 15. Appointments are currently booked through Ajovarma; from the start of 2027 the test will be organised, depending on the area, by Traficom's new contract partner (e.g. CityKuljettajat), and Ajovarma will continue only with practical driving tests and handling tests in Helsinki and Espoo.

You get the category T licence after passing the test
The category T licence involves no driving lessons or other compulsory driving instruction.
